Deep-gas production at ACG block to start in Q1 2025 - Aliyev

BAKU. March 1 (Interfax) - Production of natural gas from deep-gas formations in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field block will begin in Q1 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"Natural gas production will begin from deep-seated formations as part of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project in the first quarter of 2025. This is a very promising project," Aliyev said in his speech on Friday at the tenth ministerial meeting relating to the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor and the second ministerial meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council.

The head of state said that the ACG block, which, together with the Absheron and Shah Deniz fields, has been a primary source of Azerbaijani oil exports for many years, would become an additional source of Azerbaijani gas supplies.

At the first stage, the production of deep-gas from the ACG block will reach about 0.5 bcm per year, Aliyev said.

"However, within a few years this figure will increase 3-4 times," the president said.

BP-Azerbaijan plans to begin drilling the first production well for deep-gas production in the second half of 2024. The reserves of deep-gas at ACG are currently projected at 300 bcm.
