Baku condemns Europarl report on foreign, security policy for anti-Azerbaijani bias

BAKU. Feb 29 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condemns and rejects the annual report on the implementation of the common foreign and security policy adopted by the European Parliament, which Baku believes contains provisions targeted against Azerbaijan.

"We strongly condemn and reject the annual report on the implementation of the common foreign policy and security policy, which contains provisions targeted against our country," Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizada said on Thursday.

These provisions are part of the slanderous campaign against Azerbaijan, in which all facts are distorted, are slanderous and totally unfounded, and raise serious questions about the future of the EU's common foreign policy and security policy, he said.

This report reflects "a superficial approach to foreign policy and security policy, and also shows that members of the European Parliament engage in populism and are very far from developing the right strategic approach to our region," Hajizada said.

The European Parliament by its report shows disrespect of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, he said.

"The European Parliament, which is an institution of the European Union, which in its statements promotes respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, demonstrates disrespect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, condemns the counterterrorist measures taken on our sovereign territories, in which not a single civilian was a target, and also encourages separatism, all these things show once again that the European Parliament puts the personal interests of parliamentarians above the interests of international law and the European Union," Hajizada said.

"The foreign policy and security policy of the European Union will remain captives of its utopian approaches to the system of international relations until this institution puts an end to this arbitrariness inside its institutions," he said.

The European Parliament on February 28 adopted a report on the foreign and security policy of the EU, in which it, among other things, called for the immediate introduction of sanctions against Azerbaijan.
