Armenia ready to become EU candidate - parliament speaker

YEREVAN. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Armenia is ready to deepen relations with the European Union and become an EU candidate, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said.

"We are ready, definitely," Simonyan said in response to a journalist's question on whether Armenia was ready to deepen relations with the European Union and become an EU candidate.

Armenia will take the path "that will ensure our maximum security," he said.

"Today, being a democratic country means to have the greatest security system. We believe that our security means being a democratic country and closely interacting with the democratic system," Simonyan said.
