Power consumption by Ukrainian industry up by over 27% in Jan 2024 - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Ukrainian industry increased its electricity consumption by more than 27% in January 2024 year-on-year.

"This winter, Ukrainian industry has consumed significantly more electricity than last year. In particular, power consumption by enterprises rose 27.2% in January [2024] as compared to the same period of the previous year (2.4 billion kWh versus 1.9 billion kWh) and was 82 million kWh more than in the previous winter month," Ukrainian media said, citing the Energy Ministry.

Electricity consumption by the population in Ukraine has also grown. Thus, electricity consumption by households rose 13.5% in January 2024 year-on-year, and was 101 million kWh more than in December 2023.

"We are concluding this winter stably - with light and heating. We have been able to achieve such results due to, among other factors, a large-scale repair campaign in the energy sector, which will continue," Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.

Tendencies toward larger electricity production in Ukraine by nuclear power plants and hydropower plants were maintained in January 2024, the ministry said.

As reported, electricity consumption by Ukrainian industry increased 37.6% to 2.34 billion kWh in December 2023 from 1.69 billion kWh in December 2022.
