Moldova to extend temporary protection of Ukrainian DPs for a year

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The period of providing temporary protection to forcibly displaced persons (DPs) from Ukraine will be extended on March 1 for another year, until March 1, 2025, Ukrainian media reported citing a statement of the Moldovan government on Wednesday.

"An ID of a beneficiary of temporary protection will also be extended automatically. The executive authorities approved this decision to ensure stability and security of Ukrainians who were granted shelter in Moldova," the statement said.

Ukrainian citizens staying in Moldova could submit a temporary protection request until March 1, 2024, and Ukrainians arriving in Moldova after this date could do so until March 1, 2025, it said.

Persons granted temporary protection will be able to work in Moldova without obtaining a temporary residence permit for the purpose of work provided that they are registered with the National Employment Agency's local offices, it said.

According to the Moldovan government, over 116,000 displaced persons from Ukraine are currently staying in Moldova, including about 39,000 people who pre-registered to apply for temporary protection and over 30,000 people who obtained IDs.
