ArcelorMittal Krivoi Rog doubles pig iron and coke output in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The ArcelorMittal Krivoi Rog (AMKR) steel works in Ukraine doubled pig iron output year-on-year to 149,000 tonnes in January, Ukrainian media reported, quoting a company statement.

Iron ore concentrate production rose 70% to 552,000 tonnes and blast furnace coke 80% to 85,000 tonnes.

AMKR also produced 72,000 tonnes of roll and 76,000 tonnes of crude steel - it did not produce either in the same month of last year.

Pig iron rose 10% compared with December 2023, iron ore concentrate 41%, crude steel 23%, roll 26% and coke 9%.

AMKR reduced steel roll output 19.2% in 2023 to 900,000 tonnes. Crude steel output fell 18.5% to 1 million tonnes, pig iron 7.2% to 1.5 million tonnes and coke 20.3% to 900,000 tonnes, however iron ore concentrate production rose 0.4% to 4.6 million tonnes. Ore mining fell 2.1% to 11.4 million tonnes.

ArcelorMittal Krivoi Rog is the largest producer of rolled steel in Ukraine. It specializes in the production of long products, in particular rebar and wire rod.
