Kyrgyzstan cancels registration of Russian Qiwi Bank as operator of Contact and Qiwi-wallet services

BISHKEK. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has canceled the registration of Qiwi Bank as the operator of the Contact money transfer system and the Qiwi-wallet payment service, Aibek Sultanaliyev, head of the National Bank's payment systems department, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"In connection with the revocation of the license for banking operations from credit organization Qiwi Bank in the country of origin, the Russian Federation, the registration of Qiwi Bank with the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan as an operator of international money transfer system Contact and the international electronic money system Qiwi, has been canceled," Sultanaliyev said.

Repayment of obligations to clients will be carried out taking into account the insurance instruments and contractual relations between payment systems and the commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan, he said.

"The issue is being processed normally. There is a set of tools, which functions in this case. If there were any transfers, then work is conducted with clients as per their contractual relations. If clients have problems receiving funds, first of all, they will have to contact the banks themselves to solve them," Sultanaliyev said.
