Some of Ukrainian grain spilled in Poland to be discarded

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Poland is completing collection of the Ukrainian corn spilled near the Kotomierz rail station early on Sunday morning, yet won't be able to collect 30 tonnes, transport security company representative Pawel Bylewski told the Polish media outlet pap.pl, as quoted by Ukrainian media.

"Out of 40 cars, eight were opened. Eight-millimeter-thick customs cables were cut, and the double side doors of the cars were opened," Bylewski said, adding that opened doors led to the spillage of half of goods from a car.

In his words, the Ukrainian corn transported to the Gdansk port was destined for Morocco. From 160 to 180 tonnes of grain was spilled, and 30 tonnes remained on the ground. The grain will be collected, weighed at the customs and either discarded and processed into bio-fuel.

As of Monday, the Polish police still did not know when the grain spilled and who did that. A criminal case was opened after consultations with a prosecutor on property destruction counts (Article 288 of the Polish Criminal Code), pap.pl said.

As reported, the February 25 spillage is the fourth incident of the sort in Poland. Back on February 20, Polish farmers blocked the railroad near the Medyka checkpoint at the Polish border and spilled the grain from a car on the track. Unknown persons spilled rapeseed destined for Germany from three hoppers at the Dorohusk railroad checkpoint in the morning of February 23. Unknown persons also damaged hoppers with Ukrainian beans at the Polish Dorohusk checkpoint in the morning of February 24.
