Ukrainian Border Service updates border crossing statistics

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The number of people who crossed into Ukraine from February 17 to 23, 2024 increased by 5.8% to 218,000, while the number of those who departed the country in this period declined by 2.5% to 197,000 week on week, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the State Border Service's social media post.

The new protests by Polish farmers, who have been blocking the border with Ukraine since February 9, has prompted the number of commercial vehicles cleared to cross the border over said period to go down by 3.8% to 101,000, while the number of those carrying humanitarian cargo remained the same as the week before, 683.

According to the United Nations Refugee Agency's data as of February 15, 2024, the number of Ukrainian refugees across the world was estimated at 6.48 million, including 6.004 million in European countries outside of Ukraine, going up by 30,000 and 29,000 respectively from the start of 2024.

Inside Ukraine, according to the UN data as of November 2023, there were 3.674 million internally displaced persons (IDPs).
