Tajikistan population nearing 10.3 mln

DUSHANBE. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The population of Tajikistan grew 3.9% to nearly 10.28 million in 2023, the Khovar national news agency said on Monday, citing the presidential Statistical Agency.

"Given the number of registered births, deaths and migrants, the population reached 10,277,100 on January 1, 2024. According to preliminary information, natural population growth stood at 3.9% in January-December 2023, compared to 2022. Over that time, civil registry offices registered 239,900 people born within the period set by law," the agency said.

A growth in births was reported in all regions except the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. Growth stood at 5.5% in the Khatlon region, 2.8% in the Sughd region, 7.4% in Dushanbe, and 2.3% in districts of republican subordination. The number of registered births decreased by 10.5% in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

Tajikistan saw a 4% increase in registered births in 2022, it said.
