Arctic LNG 2 receives first LNG in December, Cryogas-Vysotsk produces 812,000 tonnes in 2023 - Novatek

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Novatek confirmed it had received its first liquefied natural gas from the Arctic LNG 2 plant in December.

"The first Arctic LNG 2 production line with a capacity of 6.6 million tonnes of LNG was towed from the Murmansk region and installed on Gydan. The platform weighs 640,000 tonnes and is the heaviest moving object in the history of the global LNG industry. It was successfully commissioned, and in December 2023, the first LNG was received," Novatek's annual report said.

The document also reports that a medium-tonnage LNG plant operating with the participation of Cryogas-Vysotsk produced 812,000 tonnes of LNG in 2023. The plant produced 707,000 tonnes in 2022.

Yamal LNG production volumes are not indicated. The report says that the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye field, the resource base for the LNG plant, saw production decrease 3.7% in 2023 to 18.544 bcm.

The report indicates the share of joint ventures in production (60%). Thus, Yamal LNG could produce 30.9 bcm of gas 2023, which is equivalent to 22.4 million tonnes of LNG. Yamal LNG shipped 284 tankers or almost 21 million tonnes of LNG in 2022.

Production of liquid hydrocarbons at Yamal LNG (condensate) last year increased almost 25% to 681,000 tonnes (as part of the share of Novatek), or just 1.14 million tonnes.

Yamal LNG and Novatek developed their own guidelines at the end of 2022 for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions and the carbon footprint of products based on the ISO 14064-1:2018 and ISO 14067:2018 international standards (the Greenhouse Gas Protocol) and recommendations from the International Group of LNG Importers, which was validated by an international accredited organization in October 2023. The new methodology allows buyers to receive verified evidence of emissions and the carbon footprint for each LNG shipment supplied from the Yamal LNG project. Confirmation of the carbon footprint of a delivered LNG shipment was sent to a buyer at the end of 2023, the company said.
