Ukrenergo report on sufficiency of generating capacity approved

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities has approved a report on the sufficiency of generating capacity to meet projected demand for electricity and provide the necessary reserve in 2023.

Ukrenergo drafted the document in accordance with the Law on the Electric Power Market and the Transmission System Code, Ukrainian media reported.

"The report includes a scenario assessment of the forecast balances of capacity and electricity in Ukraine's Unified Energy System for the short, medium and long term, taking into account structural, economic, market, environmental conditions, measures to manage demand and energy efficiency, in observance of operational safety standards," the regulator said on its website following the decision reached at a meeting on Tuesday.

The National Commission said that when drafting the report in 2023, the methodological basis was elaborated compared to the previous year in terms of forecasting volumes and consumption/demand curves for electricity, taking into account the introduction of solar power generation by households.

In addition, the principles of Ukraine's Energy Strategy for the period until 2050 were taken into consideration, as well as the impact of increasing the fleet of electric vehicles, in particular the opportunities for them to interact with the energy system in two areas, namely electricity offtake and supply.

"The National Commission recommends that Ukrenergo publish the approved report on the assessment of the sufficiency (adequacy) of generating capacity in 2023 (with supporting documents) on its website within five working days of the last day of the month following the month when martial law in Ukraine is terminated or lifted," the regulator said.

According to the Law on the Electric Power Market, the transmission system operator represented by Ukrenergo drafts an annual report on the assessment of the sufficiency (adequacy) of generating capacity to meet projected demand for electricity and provide the necessary reserve taking requirements for the security of supplies into account.

The National Commission approves the report and posts it on the transmission operator's official website.
