Ukraine expecting another $1.76 bln in budget support from Japan

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Japan became the biggest donor of Ukraine in 2024 having provided $436 million as soft loans and grants to the Ukrainian state budget, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said.

"Budget assistance from Japan will near $2.2 billion in the first quarter," Ukrainian media cited Marchenko as saying on a social network on Tuesday evening, after a Ukrainian delegation visited Tokyo.

Marchenko said he had negotiations with Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki and thanked him for Japan's leadership and comprehensive support.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will supplement the assistance with a $100-million grant for mitigating the crisis impact on transport and critical infrastructure, he said.
