Georgia will be ready to join EU in 2030 - PM

TBILISI. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Georgia will be ready to join the European Union in 2030, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

"I can say one thing, we have ambitious plans with regard to Georgia's EU integration. And 2030 that was the year named by [European Council] President [Charles] Michel, in 2023 Georgia will be ready more than other candidate country for the EU membership. That's our ambitious plan and we are very much committed to the reform agenda, to all the steps to be met towards the EU integration," Kobakhidze said at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Brussels on Tuesday.

Borrell said that Georgia needed to complete reforms to hold free and fair elections this year.

"Everybody has to be aware the door has been opened - you have to go through the door," Borrell said.
