Russian government expands boundaries of Taman seaport for Togliattiazot terminal project

KRASNODAR. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Russian government has expanded the territory of the Taman seaport in Krasnodar Territory for the construction of a transshipment complex for ammonia and mineral fertilizers with a capacity of 5 million tonnes per year, currently being built by JSC Togliattiazot.

The order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on February 19, and subsequently published on the government's website.

"The boundaries of the seaport of Taman include additional land plots that are necessary for the construction of a transshipment complex for ammonia and fertilizers with a capacity of 5 million tonnes per year. The complex will include ammonia and urea warehouses, technological racks for ammonia pipelines, hydraulic structures, access roads and railways, as well as other infrastructure," the document says.

The commissioning of the first stage of the seaport will make it possible to supply up to 2 million tonnes of ammonia per year. The second stage will increase capacity to 3.5 million tonnes of ammonia and 1.5 million tonnes of urea per year. This will allow for the establishment of new routes for the supply of ammonia and fertilizers to external and domestic markets. The transshipment complex will be launched fully in 2025.

Total investment in the construction of the facility is 60 billion rubles. It is expected that at least 500 jobs will be created.

The new terminal will operate as a closed-cycle facility, which will eliminate emissions into the atmosphere and minimize impact on the environment, the report explains.

As reported, last year the local government transferred almost 43 hectares of agricultural land in Taman to industrial use to accommodate the transshipment complex.
