Kazakhstan proposes to ban egg imports for six months

ALMATY. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Agriculture Ministry has proposed a six-month ban on importing fresh chicken eggs.

"The draft order proposes a six-month ban on the import of fresh chicken eggs (EAEU HS code 040721) into Kazakhstan by road transport from third countries and Eurasian Economic Union countries," the document states.

This measure will go into effect on May 1, 2024. The draft order is up for public discussion until March 1, 2024.

Kazakhstan was 98% self-sufficient in eggs in 2023. Egg production fell to 4.9 billion, from 5 billion in 2022. The country exported 175.9 million eggs and imported 286.9 million.
