Ukraine doubles ferrous metal scrap procurement, exports in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Ukrainian scrap yards boosted ferrous scrap metal procurement 96% year-on-year in January to 118,300 tonnes, Ukrainian media said, quoting the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals or UAVtormet.

Scrap exports rose 2.1-fold to 17,200 tonnes while imports, which Ukraine did not carry out a year previously, came to 130 tonnes.

Scrap supply to the country's steel mills rose 90% to 95,500 tonnes in January this year.

Scrap metal stocks at steel plants were estimated at 25,000-30,000 tonnes as of February 1.
