Ukraine gets $49.4-mln grant from Japan under World Bank's HOPE project

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian state budget has received part of the Japanese government's grant in the amount of $49.4 million under the World Bank's Housing Repair for People's Empowerment Project (HOPE), Ukrainian media said on Friday, citing the Ukrainian Finance Ministry.

"The attracted funds will be invested in reconstruction of Ukraine' housing infrastructure. I am grateful to the teams of the Japanese government and the World Bank for support," Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said.

In the near future, Ukraine is expecting funds from the Japanese and Norwegian governments through the World Bank's PEACE in Ukraine project, which partially compensates for national budget expenses on salaries of teachers and first responders, as well as on pensions, the ministry said.
