Tajik, European Council presidents discuss Afghanistan, green energy

DUSHANBE. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and European Council President Charles Michel discussed today's cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union and the prospects for its development in areas of mutual interest during a recent phone call, the Tajik leader's press service said.

Rahmon underscored the importance of further bolstering the dialogue between the sides in expanding their political, trade and economic cooperation.

"The parties also touched upon security issues, including the situation in Afghanistan and Tajik-Afghan border reinforcement. In this context, they expressed confidence that cooperation within programs such as BOMCA, CADAP and LEICA would continue," the press service said.

Rahmon also spoke in favor of more active joint work to implement green economy and green energy policies, it said.

The parties expressed hope that efficient interaction in the EU-Central Asia format would continue and the two regions' dialogue on a wide range of issues would enhance further. They also exchanged views on the schedule of upcoming contacts, the press service said.
