Container transport on Russian Railways increases 8.7% in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Container transport on the Russian Railways network for all types of traffic, including exports, imports and transit, increased in January 2024 by 8.7% compared to the same month last year to 621,100 twenty-foot equivalent Units (TEU) in loaded and empty containers, the company said.

This includes 255,000 TEU used for Russian domestic traffic, a 16.7% increase over January 2023.

The number of loaded containers used for all types of traffic increased 6.5% to 442,300 TEU. The containers transported 6.5 million tonnes of cargo (+7.9% compared to January 2023), including: 68,100 TEU of chemicals and soda (-0.5%); 41,800 TEU of timber cargo (-4.5%); 40,700 TEU of chemical and mineral fertilizers (+90%); 33,600 TEU of industrial goods (-8.9%); 33,500 TEU of hardware (same as last year); 31,600 TEU of cars and components (+23.1%); 30,800 TEU of paper (-6.5%); 28,7000 TEU of machines, machine tools and engines (-17.5%); 19,200 TEU of construction cargo (+50%); 17,700 TEU of ferrous metals (-18.8%); 17,000 TEU of other and groupage cargo (+17%); 12,900 TEU of grains (+90%); 10,500 TEU of non-ferrous metals (+8.9%); 7,500 TEU of oil and petroleum products (+3%); 2,900 TEU of non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials (+19%); 2,800 TEU of fish (-10.6%); 1,800 TEU of animal meat and oil (-0.5%); 2,500 TEU of grinding products (a 2.9-fold increase); 1,100 TEU of potatoes, vegetables, and fruits (-31.6%); and 21,700 TEU other food products (+1.7%).
