Russia providing Belarus with discounts of up to 40% for rail transport on its territory - Belarusian Transport Ministry

MINSK. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Russia has provided Belarus with discounts of up to 40% toward rail transport on its territory, the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications said on Saturday.

"Much has been done to reduce transport costs for Belarusian exporters who ship by rail. Therefore, an agreement was reached with Russia to establish discounts of 10-40% for rail transport along the North-South International Transport Corridor and to the port in St. Petersburg," the ministry said.

The ministry said that, "as a result of the measures taken in 2023, the volume of export transport by rail reached 115.4% of the 2022 figure, 83% of which was transport through Russia (a 50% increase). Half of that amount was transported via Russian ports (a 2.3-fold increase)."
