E-commerce in Russia grows 28% in 2023 to 6.4 trln rubles - association

MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Internet) - E-commerce in Russia increased 28% in 2023 to 6.4 trillion rubles, the Association of E-Commerce Companies said.

The share of e-commerce in total retail sales increased to 13.8% from 11.6% in 2022.

At the same time, 96.9% of the total volume comes from online sales inside Russia, while 3.1% is from cross-border trade.

"What we noted yesterday as a trend in the development of online commerce in the country has today become an indisputable fact: the driver of e-commerce today is Russia's regions. Online market volumes in federal cities have almost reached their peak: growth in Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as in Moscow region was within 10% in 2023. Meanwhile, in the South of Russia, Siberia and the Far East, it is over 40%," the association's president, Artem Sokolov said.

Moscow's volume share decreased to 17.7% in 2023 from 19.4% the year before, but the region retains its leadership in its share of online sales. Following Moscow are the Moscow region (up to 9.2% from 10.7% in 2022) and St. Petersburg (up to 6.1% from 7%).

The top five products sold online include digital and household appliances, furniture and household goods, clothing and footwear, food, and health & beauty products.
