Number of Russians seeing their country as advanced, wealthy grows by half over 2 years - poll

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Nearly two-thirds of Russians, or 72%, believe they live in an economically developed and scientifically and technologically advanced country, an increase from 54% since early 2022, the Public Opinion Foundation has concluded based on the findings of a sociological survey it published on its website on Friday.

The share of respondents who think that Russia is considerably lagging behind other countries in terms of its economic, scientific, and technological development has dropped to 15% from 32% over the past two years, and 13% are undecided, it said.

The number of Russians who believe that they live in a wealthy country has grown to 57%, from 37% in early 2022.

The share of Russians who are of the view that they live in a poor country has shrunk by half to 23% from 46% over the past two years, and 20% of the respondents were undecided, it said.

The Public Opinion Foundation polled 1,500 respondents aged 18 or older in 104 communities in 53 regions across Russia on January 26-28, 2024.
