European Council president welcomes Baku's readiness to resume Azerbaijani-Armenian-EU meetings in Brussels

BAKU. Feb 9 (Interfax) - European Council President Charles Michel has welcomed Azerbaijan's commitment to resume Azerbaijani-Armenian normalization talks in Brussels.

"Welcome Azerbaijan's commitment to resume the Brussels process trilateral meeting to advance a stable and prosperous South Caucasus," Michel said on the X social network.

He said he discussed Azerbaijani-Armenian normalization with Aliyev in detail.

Michel congratulated Aliyev on reelection as the Azerbaijani president and underlined the importance of further interaction with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR).

He also said they discussed Azerbaijani-EU relations and cooperation in various areas, including energy.

On Thursday, the Azerbaijani presidential press service said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told Michel in a telephone conversation at the latter's initiative that "Azerbaijan always supports trilateral meetings held in Brussels at Charles Michel's initiative."

The last trilateral meeting in Brussels involving Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Council President Charles Michel took place on July 15, 2023.
