Demand for electric cars in Ukraine grows 2.8 times in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Both new and used electric cars were registered in Ukraine in January 2.8 times as more as in the same month of 2023, reaching over 3,500 cars, of them, the share of new ones increased to 24% from 23%, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the Ukravtoprom motor vehicle manufacturers association's pages on social networks.

Passenger vehicles made up the main bulk of electric cars registered in January, 3,490 cars, including 840 new ones and 2,650 used, and only four out of the 54 commercial vehicles were new.

The top five new electric car models on the market in January were the following: Volkswagen ID.4 (286 cars), BYD Song Plus (83 cars), Honda eNS1 (80 cars), Toyota bZ4X (56 cars), and Nissan Ariya (50 cars).

The top five used electric cars registered in Ukraine for the first time in January comprises Nissan Leaf (355 cars), Tesla Model 3 (309 cars), Tesla Model Y (242 cars), Volkswagen e-Golf (178 cars), and Volkswagen iD.4 (169 cars).

As reported, Ukrainians purchased about 1,300 electric cars in January 2023, which is twice as more than in January 2022, and the share of new ones increased to 23% from 20%.

Overall, instances of registration of electric cars in Ukraine increased 2.8 times in the past year and reached 27,600, and 20% of them were new compared to 17% in 2022, Ukravtoprom said.
