Ukraine appoints army commander Syrsky as chief commander of Armed Forces

MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has appointed Col. Gen. Alexander Syrsky as chief commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"I have appointed Colonel General Syrsky as chief commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," Zelensky said in a video address on Thursday evening, Ukrainian media report.

Prior to this appointment, Syrsky was chief of the country's ground forces.
