Aliyev, European Council president discuss Baku-Yerevan peace talks, resuming meetings in Brussels

BAKU. Feb 8 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and European Council President Charles Michel have discussed cooperation on energy and transport, as well as the resumption of meetings between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the European Union in a trilateral format in Brussels in a phone conversation, the Azerbaijani leader's press service said.

"Michel congratulated Aliyev on winning the [extraordinary presidential] election and wished the president success in exercising his new mandate," the press service said.

The phone conversation also addressed various aspects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, in particular cooperation on energy and transport.

Michel emphasized that the EU is proposing specific projects to develop relations between the countries of the region in the field of transport and communications.

The sides also addressed issues relating to holding COP29 in Azerbaijan and cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan in this area.

Michel also asked Aliyev to state his position on resuming meetings between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the EU in a trilateral format in Brussels.

"Aliyev said Azerbaijan always supports trilateral meetings held in Brussels at Charles Michel's initiative," the press service said.

Aliyev and Michel also exchanged opinions on the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
