Ukraine quitting CIS transport policy agreement

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government on Tuesday endorsed a bill pulling Ukraine out of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) agreement on the principles of forming a common transport space and cooperation in transport policy, Ukrainian media said, citing the government's representative to the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnichuk.

"For the purpose of ensuring national security and enhancing measures to defend the national interests, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the bill envisages Ukraine's withdrawal from the agreement on the principles of forming a common transport space and cooperation in transport policy between the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, concluded in Bishkek on October 9, 1997 and ratified by Ukraine on October 6, 1999," Melnichuk said on social media.
