Ukrainian nuclear plants generate 21% more electricity in Jan

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP) managed by Energoatom produced 5.883 billion kWh of electricity in January, 20.5% or over 1 billion kWh more than in the same period a year earlier, Ukrainian media reported, citing the company.

NPPs generated almost half of Ukraine's power in 2023, producing 52.409 billion kWh of electricity, Energoatom reported earlier. It did not disclose production figures for 2022.

Energoatom operates the Rovno NPP with four generating units with combined capacity of 2.835 GW, the Khmelnitsky NPP with two units totaling 2 GW and the South Ukraine NPP with three 1-GW units. These plants are located in territory controlled by Kiev.

Energoatom was reorganized into a joint-stock company on December 29, 2023 and registered as a JSC whose shares are all owned by the state in January. The reorganization process is expected to be completed by March.
