Nature helping restore sufficient water levels in Dnieper and Dniester Rivers - company
MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Climate factors are contributing to the restoration of sufficient water levels in the reservoirs of the Dnieper and Dniester Rivers, a circumstance that will positively impact the operations of Ukrainian hydropower plants (HPPs) in 2024.
"Despite the considerable decrease in water levels during the peak loads in November, December and January, when we had to operate like at a peak of flash floods, nature is helping restore the sufficient water levels in the reservoirs of the Dnieper and Dniester Rivers. We are currently observing a significant rise in air temperatures," Ukrainian media quoted Ukrhydroenergo CEO Igor Sirota as saying on Monday.
Ukraine's hydropower sector is confidently going through the heating season and has already started preparations for the next fall-winter season, also preparing for flash floods in the spring, Sirota said.
On January 24, Ukrhydroenergo said citing the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center that water levels continued to rise in the Upper Dnieper and the Desna in the Kiev and Chernigov regions, positively impacting the operations of the company's HPPs.
"Such a high inflow is not typical for winter. The situation was the same last year. However, it is positively influencing the operations of hydropower facilities," the company said.
