Former U.S. Secretary of State, member of Kievstar's supervisory board Pompeo meets with telecom operator's staff

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who recently became an independent member of the Kievstar Supervisory Board, met with the staff of the largest Ukrainian telecommunications operator in Kiev last Thursday, Ukrainian media reported, citing the VEON parent company and the Kievstar press service on Monday.

Pompeo arrived in Kiev at the invitation of VEON Group CEO and Kievstar's Supervisory Board Chairman Kaan Terzioglu and Kievstar President Alexander Komarov to meet with the national telecom operator's staff.

"The work of Kyivstar in supporting communication makes Ukraine stronger," Pompeo said.

Terzioglu, who was also quoted in the report, said he was proud of Kievstar's achievements in 2023. He noted that Kievstar has been extremely important for VEON that was proved by VEON's investment plans in Ukraine in the amount of $600 million.

At the end of 2023, Pompeo joined Kievstar's Supervisory Board as a partner of Impact Investments, a U.S. strategic and financial consulting and investment firm.

As reported, head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Andrei Yermak met with Pompeo last Friday, February 2.
