Ukraine's power system has surplus, 359 communities cut off from electricity

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - A surplus of electricity has emerged in the Ukrainian power system, and it was transferred to Poland, the export of electricity to Moldova is planned for the current 24 hours.

"A surplus of electricity emerged in the Ukrainian power system yesterday afternoon. At the request of the transmission system operator, the surplus was transferred to the Polish power system from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a total supply of 300 MWh," Ukrainian media reported citing the Ukrainian Energy Ministry on Monday.

Four power units and the thermal power plant building are connected to the power grid following the emergency repair, the ministry said.

Currently, 10 units of generating equipment are in reserve and will be used as needed.

For technical reasons, the equipment was disconnected at a power substation in the Dnepropetrovsk region, which resulted in the power outage of the power substations supplying household consumers and local industrial facilities in the city of Krivoi Rog. All customers were supplied with electricity under the main scheme within half an hour. At the same time, over 19,000 consumers in the Dnepropetrovsk region were cut off from power supply for technical reasons. As of Monday morning, 454 customers remained without electricity.

One community and 33 consumers were partially cut off from power supply in the Sumy region by this morning for technical reasons.

Overall, as of this morning, February 5, 359 communities remained without electricity for various reasons. There are new damages in the grids of the Kharkov region, as well as in the Kiev-controlled territories of Donetsk and Kherson regions.

The power system is currently balanced, it said. The use of stabilization schedules of consumer outages is not expected.

As of February 5, electricity is being imported throughout the day from Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova with a total volume of 4,914 MWh with a peak capacity of up to 876 MW in some hours, Ukrenergo said. Since December 1, the technical capacity to import electricity from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova has been 1,700 MW.

Electricity was exported on Monday during night hours to Moldova with a total volume of 230 MWh with a peak capacity of up to 65 MW in some hours.
