Poland reports tightening control at border with Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekierski has reported tightening control and intensifying inspections at the border with Ukraine, the ministry press service said.

"The excessive imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, which do not meet EU manufacturing requirements, endanger competitiveness of Polish agriculture," Ukrainian media quoted the Polish Agriculture Ministry's statement on a social network.

Polish Deputy Agriculture Minister Michal Kolodziejczak said, in turn, he would inspect the Yagodin-Dorohusk border checkpoint on Sunday in addition to Hrubieszow on Saturday.

"Today's border inspections are the result of specific instructions: zero tolerance for any violations. I will stand up for Polish farmers and Polish food production. No one will have any doubt that our market is well protected," the Polish radio station RMF24 quoted Kolodziejczak as saying.
