Baku cautions EU against military assistance to Armenia

BAKU. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has cautioned the European Union states against providing military assistance to Armenia.

Bayramov met with Marketa Pekarova Adamova, president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, on Friday. According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Bayramov said that "Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of the EU and member states of the association, and the use of double standards on our country and demonstration of an unfair approach does not promote the establishment of lasting peace in the region." The initiative not to confirm the Azerbaijani delegation's credentials in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) does not serve dialogue, he said.

Speaking about the situation in the South Caucasus, the minister said real conditions for achieving peace have formed between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the first time in 30 years, but the provision of military assistance to Armenia by the EU and some of its member states under any pretext "will hurt the efforts to bring peace to the South Caucasus."
