Orban: Hungary receives guarantees its money from EU funds will not be used to support Ukraine

BRUSSELS. Feb 1 (Interfax) - The European Union has provided guarantees to Budapest that the funds that Hungary is entitled to will not be used to provide financial support to Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.

"We were afraid that the EU funds earmarked for the Hungarians, which the Commission has not given us so far, would sooner or later end up in Ukraine," Orban said in a video published on X on Thursday.

"We received a guarantee that Hungary's funds cannot go to Ukraine," he said.

The EU countries have also managed to agree on "a control mechanism that guarantees the reasonable use of money," Orban said.

The participants in an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday agreed to approve a support package of 50 billion euros for Ukraine as macro-financial assistance.
