Zelensky thanks EU for approving Ukraine support package, proposes setting up Ukraine Assistance Fund
MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has thanked the European Union for its decision to approve a 50-billion-euro package under the European budget to support Ukraine over a four-year period and called on European politicians to set up a Ukraine Assistance Fund and finance it.
"This is the kind of reliability and long-term support which we now have to set against the corresponding challenges. Not less than 5 billion euros per year, for a term of four years. A clear priority," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying in a video address to the EU summit participants on Thursday.
The European Council is holding a summit in Brussels on February 1.
