Turkey supplied 5.6 mln, Azerbaijan 4.2 mln eggs to Russia in Jan - Russian food watchdog
MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Turkey supplied 5.6 million eggs to Russia in January, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said.
Turkey started to supply eggs to Russia on January 3.
Azerbaijan supplied 4.2 million eggs in January and 5.5 million since December, when it began to ship eggs to Russia.
Belarus boosted egg supplies to Russia 70% in January compared with the same month last year to 69 million.
Egg prices went up around 60% in 2023 and 18.2% in December alone, the Russian State Statistics Service has said. In light of this, the government has set zero import duty on eggs for the first half of 2024 in a move that should bring 1.2 billion eggs into the country, stabilizing prices for them.
Egg prices have indeed started to come down in January. They fell 0.2% in the week January 10-15, their first drop since the end of June 2023, 1.4% in the week January 16-22 and 1% in the week January 23-29.
