Long-distance passenger transportation on Russian Railways network up 9.7% YoY in January to 9.7 million people

MOSCOW. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Passenger transportation on Russian long-distance trains increased 9.7% in annual terms in January 2024 to 9.7 million people, Russian Railways reported, citing its own operational data.

Long-distance passenger traffic rose 11% last month to 7.6 billion passenger-kilometers.

Suburban transportation in January increased 3.4% to 77.1 million people, while passenger turnover rose 4% to 2.4 billion passenger-kilometers.

In total, 86.8 million passengers traveled in January, up 4.1% YoY; passenger turnover increased 9.3% to 10 billion passenger-kilometers.

Previously, Russian Railways reported that 4.9 million people (+6.8%) traveled on long-distance trains on the company's infrastructure during the New Year holidays from December 29, 2023 through January 8, 2024.
