Single currency not currently on agenda for Belarus-Russia Union State - senior Union State official

MINSK. Jan 30 (Interfax) - The issue of a single currency within the Belarus-Russia Union State is not currently on the agenda, State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said on the Rossiya 24 television on Tuesday.

"Today, we have achieved an unprecedented level in mutual trade in national currencies, and the issue of a single currency is basically not on the agenda," Mezentsev said.

"What is on the agenda is the issue of improving trade turnover [and] adjusting the rules regulating those results of industrial policy that have helped lift barriers and made it possible not to create unnecessary competing production facilities and form integrated production chains," he said.

"In previous years, whether purposely or accidentally, a competitive environment for close groups of goods formed. Today, it is assumed that we will move away from this in principle," Mezentsev said.
