Ukrainian PM, U.S. treasury secretary discuss cooperation, support for Kiev

MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen discussed cooperation, economic issues and support for Ukraine at their virtual meeting on Tuesday.

Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko also took part in the talks, Ukrainian media said, citing the Finance Ministry's press service.

"We are working closely with the International Monetary Fund and the EU on joint funding programs and count on further support from the United States. This is critically important for maintaining the macrofinancial stability of our country," Shmygal said.

Shmygal also noted the high level of cooperation with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker in implementing steps and reforms facilitating economic growth. He thanked the U.S. for its continuous coordination of these efforts.

Yellen, in turn, highly assessed Ukraine's progress in carrying out reforms, reaffirming that "support for Ukraine remains a top priority for President Joe Biden and the U.S. government."
