Lavrov, Guterres note importance of bolstering UN's coordinating role in global politics - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted the need to bolster the UN's coordinating role in global politics at a meeting in New York, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press release published on its website.
"Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a separate meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres while visiting New York for UN Security Council meetings on Ukraine and Middle East affairs. Various aspects of Russia-UN cooperation and key items on the international agenda were discussed in detail. Both sides noted the importance of further strengthening of the central, coordinating role of the UN in global politics with due account of the widest range of opinions of member states," the press release said.
Lavrov "particularly emphasized the imperative of commitment of all UN Secretariat employees to the principles of impartiality and equidistance in strict accordance with the UN Charter," the press release said.
