Domestic tourism increase at 20% in 2023 - president of Russian Union of Travel Industry

MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Domestic tourist trips in Russia hit 86 million in 2023, up 20% year-on-year, Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI) President Ilya Umansky said.

"The industry is expecting a major increase in domestic tourist trips in Russia in 2023. We are hoping for a 19%-20% growth. This is a very significant rise," Umansky said at a plenary session of the Tourism and Sports Day at the Russia Expo hosted by the VDNKh exhibition center in Moscow.

According to Umansky, 86 million domestic tourist trips were made in Russia in 2023.

The RUTI information about tourist trips in 2023 "differs from the previous data, and these numbers must be verified," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said, in turn.

Earlier, he said the government estimated the number of domestic tourist trips at 75 million in Russia in 2023.
