European traders intend to increase volume of gas in Ukrainian underground storages for next winter - Naftogaz CEO

MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - A number of European gas traders confirmed during meetings at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland's Davos that they plan to increase the volume of gas they would wish to store in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities for next winter, Ukrainian media reported with reference to Naftogaz CEO Alexei Chernyshov.

"I had a chance to meet with a number of European traders in Davos, and we endorsed larger volumes of gas to be stored for next winter. We have capacity and we have resources that we offer," Chernyshov said on the sidelines of Davos Ukrainian Breakfast 2024 on Thursday.

Ukraine has proven to be a reliable partner in terms of storing natural gas, Chernyshov said. "We've stored and are storing 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas," he said.

"Ukraine should position itself as a European energy hub that can store, produce, transport, and distribute energy," he said.
