RZD acquires 557 locomotives for 129 bln rubles in 2023

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Russian Railways (RZD) in 2023 allocated 129 billion rubles to update traction rolling stock, purchasing 557 locomotives produced in Russia, the company said.

RZD purchased 310 electric locomotives, including 282 freight locomotives and 247 diesel locomotives.

The largest number of new machines (209 units) was added to the fleets of locomotive depots of the Eastern Polygon. According to the company, new locomotives are already in operation at the Abakan (Khakassia), Chita (Transbaikal Territory), Smolyaninovo (Primorye Territory), Komsomolsk (Khabarovsk Territory) and Zima (Irkutsk Region) depots.

In August of last year, Russian Railways estimated the need for purchases of traction rolling stock through 2035 at 8,200 units or 680 locomotives per year.

As reported, the Russian Railways investment program for 2023 was increased from 1.1 trillion to 1.19 trillion rubles. The company's investment program for 2024 was approved in the amount of 1.275 trillion rubles, including 366 billion rubles in investments for development of Eastern Polygon infrastructure.
