Ukrainian Railways' cargo transportation down 1.5% in 2023

MOSCOW. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Cargo transportation by JSC Ukrainian Railways on all routes declined 1.5% to 148.4 million tonnes in 2023 year-on-year, Ukrainian media said, citing the company's website.

The average monthly amount transported by Ukrainian Railways from March to December 2023 was 23% larger than in the same period the year before, the company said.

The highest results in 2023 were recorded in November, when Ukrainian Railways transported 14.1 million tonnes of cargo, it said.

Last year, the company transported 22.3 million tonnes of all exports to seaports and 34.4 million tonnes to land border crossings, it said.

Transportation inside the country increased 11.4% to 84.8 million tonnes in 2023 year-on-year.

The largest amounts of cargo transported by Ukrainian Railways in 2023 were grain - 30.9 million tonnes (+5.9%), construction materials - 29.6 million tonnes (+29.6%), iron and manganese ores - 27.5 million tonnes (-13.2%), coal - 26.2 million tonnes (-11.2%), and ferrous metals - 8.2 million tonnes (-10.6%), the company said.
