European Commission president calls for further assistance to Ukraine in Davos

BRUSSELS. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The European Union should continue to help Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the World Economic Forum on Tuesday.

"Ukrainians need predictable financing [...]. They need a sustained supply of weapons," von der Leyen said.

Ukraine needs hope, and this hope is linked to Europe, she said, noting the EU's decision to begin accession talks with Kiev.

"This will be Ukraine's historic achievement and it will be Europe responding to the call of history," von der Leyen said.
