Ukrainian DTEK increasing coal imports from Poland to 357,000 tonnes, half already delivered

MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - DTEK Energy, Ukraine's biggest privately owned power generating company in Ukraine, is increasing coal imports to 357,000 tonnes.

"DTEK Energy has agreed to import an additional 80,000 tonnes of coal from Poland to keep its thermal power plants running smoothly. The total volume of coal ordered by the company has increased to 357,000 tonnes," Ukrainian media reported, quoting a company press release.

Almost 182,000 tonnes of this have already been delivered.

"Imported fuel is an additional safety cushion for thermal generation in the winter. Our priority, as always, remains production at Ukrainian mines. According to preliminary data, our investments in Ukrainian mines over the past year amounted to approximately UAH 7 billion. This enabled us to put 26 new coal faces into operation, fulfill the annual coal production plan and provide our thermal power plants with the fuel they need," Ildar Saleyev, general director of DTEK Energy, was quoted as saying in the press release.

DTEK Energy ordered 210,000 tonnes of coal from Poland in September 2023 and another 70,000 tonnes in November.

DTEK Energy is an operating company that produces coal and electricity within the DTEK holding.

DTEK was founded in 2005 to manage the energy assets of Rinat Akhmetov's System Capital.
