Romanian farmers expand blockade of border with Ukraine

MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Farmers in Romania are again blocking truck traffic through the Siret crossing on the border with Ukraine, and have also launched a blockade of the Vicovu de Sus border checkpoint, Ukraine's State Border Service said.

"At around midday, farmers resumed blocking truck traffic in the direction of the Siret border crossing, which is located opposite Ukraine's Porubnoye crossing. A blockade of the Vicovu de Sus Romanian border crossing - Krasnoilsk on the Ukrainian side of the border - has begun as well," Ukrainian media quoted the State Border Service as saying on Monday.

"Other means of transport, as well as pedestrians are being cleared to enter or exit Ukraine in accordance with the established procedure," it said.

As reported, Romanian farmers began blocking truck traffic through the Siret crossing on the border with Ukraine on January 13. The blockade lasted for six hours on Saturday. Truck traffic via Siret was also halted from time to time on Sunday.

Romanian farmers' demands and how long they are going to stage protests on the border are not yet known.
