Ukrainian exports of goods down 18.5%, imports up 14% in 2023 YoY - Statistics Service

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Ukraine's exports of goods declined by 18.5% to $36 billion in 2023 from $44.2 billion in 2022, while imports to Ukraine grew by 14.4% to $63.5 billion from $55.5 billion year-on-year, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the State Statistics Service on Friday.

Hence, Ukraine's foreign trade declined by 0.3% to $99.4 billion in 2023 compared to 2022, it said.

Taxed imports amounted to $52.6 billion, or 83% of all imported goods, and the tax burden on one kilo of taxed imports increased by 38% to $0.49 per kilo in 2023.

The largest imports came to Ukraine from China ($10.4 billion), Poland ($6.6 billion), and Germany ($4.9 billion), while the principal Ukrainian export destinations were Poland ($4.7 billion) Romania ($3.7 billion), and China ($2.4 billion).

Machinery, equipment and transport vehicles worth $19.8 billion accounted for 65% of the total volume of goods imported into Ukraine in 2023 (bringing UAH 141.7 billion, or 31%, to the state budget in customs duty revenues). Imports of chemical industry products were worth $11 billion (UAH 74.8 billion, or 16%, paid to the budget in customs duties), and fuel and energy goods $10.3 billion (UAH 103.4 billion, or 23%, in customs duties).

The top-3 Ukrainian export earners in 2023 were foodstuffs ($21.8 billion), metals and metal items ($3.9 billion), and machinery, equipment, and transport vehicles ($2.9 billion).

The budget revenues from export duties amounted to UAH 559.2 million, State Customs Service said.
