Former VW plant in Kaluga expected to reopen in H1 - governor

KALUGA. Jan 12 (Interfax) - German carmaker Volkswagen's former automobile plant in Kaluga is expected to restart operations in the first half of 2024, Kaluga Region Governor Vladislav Shapsha said.

"I'm confident that it will start operations in the first half of this year. The finishing touches have already been put on these negotiations," Shapsha said on TV channel Rossiya24.

Earlier reports citing the plant's union said that the plant will remain idle until February 29.

Volkswagen sold its Russian business to Art-Finance LLC, a division of auto dealer Avilon, for 125 million euros in May 2023.
